Irregularlies #141

Today I've been trying out a different way to construct the torso. The finished thing looks pretty much exactly the same as always but it's done way differently:

Red ones are from imagination, the rest are done from photos. This one is mostly about how to draw the ribcage-midsection-hips so I did not put boobs on every one of them. Enjoy your boobless mannequins.

-=-=-=- Edit: -=-=-=-

Have some more, still from photos:

I am loving this. Between the grey and brown figures something clicked and I started drawing the figures way better than before. I feel that I've finally found what was missing from my figure drawing.

Here's the different method I am talking about:

I like it. It treats the whole torso as one form instead of dividing it from the start. I need to practice it a little bit more before I am fully comfortable with it but I think I'll go with this method from now on.

  1. So... It takes less time to draw, but you basicly end up with the same result?

Or has it simply become boring to draw like you usually do?

    [Mmm, boobless mannequins :D]

    1. It's faster, more flexible, and makes it easier to draw more complex poses. By "looks the same" I meant that my standard manequin thingy looks more or less like it always does.

    3. I like how torsos twist in the 2nd sketch, it's very realistic.
in fact all characters in the two sketches have very natural poses (for lascivious poses of course).

I never thought to draw characters with different gestures, there are a thousand ways to stand, not just one

when you move the shoulders, pelvis follows ... there is so much possibility! it must be really impossible to get bored!

Have you already planned to draw sketches from photos of athletes in action, such as gymnasts or else.

    1. I don't know if I would call this method "basic". Without knowing the masses of the torso, proportions and some basics of anatomy it's not gonna work that well.

    2. Well, my teacher was an abstrat artist... And it's like the most than his student go all out whit the fantasy...

But I still remember that it teached me that method when I was around 11-12 years old. stil doing today before drawing as an habit.

  4. The drawing bug has been biting at my mind and hands, you're very inspirational, and while I haven't shared much of the stuff I work on, I have been making improvements myself. I learn more from every post you do like this...just need to find a coloring style that works good and stick with that.
